VERY RARE! Glen Campbell Introduced by The Kingston Trio on Stage in 1964
Glen Campbell was without a doubt one of the hottest session musicians in LA in the early sixties. One of his significant and regular gigs was for THE KINGSTON TRIO, the American folk and pop music group, playing guitar and occasionally singing chorus with the group in the recording studio at Capitol Records. Some of these recordings with Glen's innovative, on-the-spot contributions became mega hits for the TRIO.
In 1964, The Kingston Trio performed at "The Hungry i" nightclub in San Francisco for an extended engagement to develop a live album for Capitol Records. Glen performed on stage with the Trio and also on sessions for the album. Titled BACK IN TOWN, the completed LP was released on May 4, 1964.
John Stewart's introduction of the band onstage included a wonderful (and humorous) intro to Glen. We can't hear Glen's response, if any, to John, but this intro was of huge significance to Glen's legacy as a session musician and entertainer: it was the "first PUBLIC acknowledgement of sideman Glen Campbell," according to liner notes prepared by Capitol Records for THE KINGSTON TRIO THE CAPITOL YEARS.
*Fans of Glen's 12-string guitar playing may want to check out this album to enjoy his unmistakeable playing. Thanks for watching!

My God!❤❤❤
Roy was a one off, weren't we lucky.❤❤❤❤
The fact this is real and i'm watching it is mind blowing to me.
Not as good as me!!!!. (I wish!).
He is an absolute genius of stringed instruments!!!!
Chills 😘😘😘
He cancelled a couple of shows in the 70s because his hand actually traveled through time and didn't return for a couple of weeks.
Eddy Van Halen was asked what it was like being the"best guitarist in the world " answers ask Roy Clark
Back when I was young, and most of my family still loved me, I'd spend Saturday nights at my grandparents. Now there were two shows that were followed with almost a religious fervor, and being raised Baptist, I know what I'm talking about, those shows were, Lawrence Welk and Hee Haw. LW I'd get through waiting for Joe Feeny, Lawrence's Irish Tenor and The Lennon Sisters, because I had a big crush on the youngest sister Peggy, or Janet. I have problems with names. But I loved Hee Haw for the humor and the spots that hi-lighted the musical talent that was out there in CW and Blue Grass. I got laughed at a lot when I first started talking about at school. This was in the early 60's and The Beatles and Rolling Stones were taking over music. I liked them too, but the musicians I saw on Hee Haw were as masterful with their instruments as any Rock musician. RIP Roy you are missed greatly.
Absolutely Amazing!❤
Precious video, He was one of the best - great guitarist, great singer, great person. Thank you for sharing. RIP.
Glad you enjoyed it
A precious video. Thank you. He was a special performer - great singer, great guitarist, great person. RIP.
Ultimate fantasy guitar duo: Roy Clark and Danny Gatton.
Yeah, well: Roy Clark, Tommy Emmanuel, Glen Campbell, Les Paul, and Al Di Meola are very, very, highly skilled musicians on guitar, although some people are unaware of their abilities
Hearing this right now in NC!
Good luck to you all in NC!
If Roy isn't the best string man ever, nobody is!
Unreal
I thank the Lord Jesus I was born when I was ❤ HS Class of 1975
“M A L A - guena” - last words of some foo before dying of heat stroke cuz what was being pushed was straight fire🔥 still listen to this after close to a decade
Absolutely breathtaking...........
Way underrated
When music was performed by a musician and the sound could evoke emotions you didn’t know you were capable of feeling.
Well, SON!!
THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Glen for many years of pleasure also your daughter a great legacy to be so proud of RIP
Эти дедушки знали свое дело.
That guitar was smokin!
Watching in 2024 post University protests/terrorist ,God blessed Roy with such talent …I really needed this….please pray for America …..🎚🙏🇺🇸🇮🇱
🙏🙏🙏 to you and all of us America. Thank you for taking time to watch this video. We are glad it helped. ♥
Cool guitar. Looks like a hybrid of a Gibson ES-335 and a Dobro.
Always a perfect musical combination, Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb. This a great song penned by John Hartford. RIP Glen.
I'm exhausted just watching Roy's playing athleticism.
Miss you so much, Glen Campbell!! 🙏🌹🎵
Always loved this guy. I remember in his later years, he had some public displays that were not so pleasant. It came from a place of great pain. No matter I still loved him. There was always a sense of joy that he wanted to impart through his art. For that I will always be thankful…
He may be one of a few people that can play the melody and rithum at the same time. Their was not too meany people that could keep up with him. Try to check out Roy play 12th. Street Rag.😊
The guy was just special.
So, I lived in Branson at the time this happened. Sadly, due to my ruthless work schedule I was unable to attend any of his shows, though I did attend a few other artists' performances whenever my parents visited. Without a doubt, Clark is one of the greatest of all guitarists. He put his own power, passion, and technique into the annals of history. Good work, Roy!
So talented .
I love to hear Glen sing and watch him play the guitar. One of the greatest guitar players ever to play. God, I miss him so much, but his music lives on forever...
Beautiful song❤
Brilliant ❤
I am in Africa. I have honestly never heard of this performer previously. Juts goes to show at age 67 life can still hold pleasant surprises. Amazing talent - up there with the best I reckon. Thank you very much for posting this. I love the song but this is the first time I heard this version.
So glad you found this video and Glen Campbell's version! You can search for more of Glen's songs here on this channel and on UA-cam in general. "A Better Place" is sublime!
Best guitar player ever.
Anyone who is not duly impressed might take note of the fact that he's playing this on a twelve string.
Saw him in person at the Heart of Illinois Fair in Peoria, IL playing that same song on a 12 string guitar.
Holy crud. I had no idea.
Underrated vocalist . He could hit the highs dead on
Still amazed at this in 2024!
So extremely skilled! He was absolutely amazing! 👏👏👏 Between him and Glen Cambell’s guitar talents, I don’t know anyone else who is better.
Wow.
